Dana Zhou

Director/Violin and Viola

At the age of four, Ms. Dana was impressed by a violin recording from Mr. Itzhak Perlman and began her studies with Mr. Shunming Du in her hometown, Suzhou, China. She was recommended to study with Prof. Danqing Zhao, an outstanding pedagogue from the Shanghai Conservatory, at the age of nine. Ms. Dana has earned her Master of Music in String Pedagogy with Prof. Danwen Jiang at Arizona State University.

Additionally, Ms. Dana holds a second Master’s degree in Violin Performance with Dr. Ernest Salem from Cal State Fullerton, and a Bachelor’s degree from Cal State LA with Professor Fung Ho. Ms. Dana is also a Doctoral Music Program recipient along with Teaching Assistantship from Florida State University.

 

Ms. Dana has performed globally and worked with many world renowned artists, such as Naiyuan Hu, Bin Huang, Igor Gruppman, Alexandre Brussilovsky, Shmuel Ashkenasi, and Rostad Masumi.

 

As an active chamber musician, Ms. Dana serves as a violinist of West Valley Symphony. She is also a violist of the Joy Music String Quartet which debuted in 2019 Red Rock Winter Music. Ms. Dana's premiered scores of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with Theater Works dramatic production both won the 2017-2018, and 2018-2019 ariZoni Theater Award of Excellence in Original Music Composition. Ms. Dana was featured in Ross Casey’s Aquatic Ambiance on Apple Music.

​As a music educator, Ms. Dana's students have been actively share their music talent with the society. Their music "footprints" can be traced in retirement houses, parks, the Walt Disney Hall, film music, Mexico, Korea, etc.   

 

Ms. Dana currently resides in Tempe with her two dogs Lily and Lucas.
